Tailored Compliance Training for Law Firms
A familiar pattern: the firm books compliance training, everyone attends, certificates are issued, the training record looks perfect. Six months later the same mistakes are being made and the same procedures ignored.
The usual cause is generic content. A pre-recorded webinar can’t answer your staff’s questions, use examples from your practice areas, or spend time on the issues your firm actually struggles with. Legal Eye’s training sessions are live, interactive, and built for your firm alone.
Why tailoring matters
The SRA’s Standards and Regulations require firms to ensure staff remain competent and keep their professional knowledge and skills up to date. Competence is contextual: a conveyancer needs different AML knowledge from a corporate lawyer, a fee earner acting for high-net-worth clients needs different source of funds training from one on legal aid matters, and a COLP needs a deeper grasp of the Codes of Conduct than a paralegal, though both need the baseline.
Five core programmes
- AML mandatory training, for all staff. Everyone in the firm has a role in preventing money laundering. This session covers obligations under the Money Laundering Regulations 2017, recognising red flags, when and how to escalate, and the consequences of getting it wrong, using scenarios your staff actually encounter.
- Source of funds and source of wealth, for all staff. One of the hardest parts of AML compliance and one of the most common failure points. Practical guidance on when enhanced due diligence is required, what counts as adequate verification, handling difficult conversations with clients, and documenting findings.
- Codes of Conduct, for COLPs and associated staff. The key provisions worked through against your firm’s circumstances, common areas of confusion, and guidance on demonstrating compliance.
- Complaints handling, for all staff. First-instance handling usually decides whether a complaint resolves quickly or escalates. This session covers the regulatory requirements, empathy and responsiveness, documentation, when to escalate, and spotting complaints that better communication would have prevented.
- AML enhanced masterclass, for MLROs and associated staff. Advanced material: money laundering methodologies, risk-based approaches to different client types, suspicious activity reporting decisions, and complex source of wealth verification, drawing on our work with hundreds of firms.
Specialist courses against SRA or CLC requirements are available as you need them.
The scoping call
Every session starts with a scoping call. We discuss your practice areas, typical clients, recent incidents or near misses, where staff struggle, and what you most need people to take away. That call shapes the examples, the scenarios, the emphasis, and the questions we prepare for, so the session that gets delivered belongs to your firm.
Live delivery, and why it works
Sessions run live by video conference. Participants ask questions as they arise, we pause on scenarios specific to your firm, go deeper where there’s confusion, and adjust pace to the room. People retain what they’ve discussed and questioned far better than what they’ve sat through, and being able to ask “but what about when…” and get an expert answer on the spot is what makes training stick.
What you keep afterwards
After each session you receive the full slide deck, a recording of the session, and any handouts or reference materials. Staff who missed the live session can complete the training later, the materials become reference points when questions arise in practice, the recordings slot into your induction programme for new starters, and you hold evidence of training delivery for regulators, insurers and accreditation bodies.
Who these sessions suit
Firms delivering annual mandatory AML training. COLPs who want their team confident on the Codes of Conduct. MLROs building advanced AML capability. Practices preparing for inspection or accreditation, or rebuilding awareness after a compliance issue.
Sessions can be booked individually, and many firms build regular training into their annual Legal Eye support package for consistent delivery through the year.
